At the heart of the 24 Hours
Each June, the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, created in 1923, makes the city vibrate. The 24 Hours Museum, at the entrance of the circuit, retraces this history: iconic cars, posters, archive films. Even outside race week, a museum visit followed by a bike ride along the Hunaudières straight makes an original, lively date, where mechanical anecdotes slip easily into the conversation.
Rillettes and Le Mans markets
Le Mans rillettes, slow-cooked for long hours over gentle heat, built the city’s gourmet reputation. People spread it on bread as an aperitif, with a Sarthe cider or a Loire wine. The markets of Les Jacobins and Place de la République line up local producers: a good excuse for a laid-back date, basket in hand and a smile on your lips.
Place de la République and nightlife
Place de la République, the beating heart of the lower town, lines up cafés and brasseries beneath its handsome nineteenth-century façades. In summer, the terraces fill and life takes on a softer air. On Lyad, local singles share their evening addresses; it is up to you to choose someone to extend the night with facing the fountain.
